I teach music to primary students grades 1-6 (ages 6-13). This is the second of my videos from activities in my class which I thought were excellent. Before this song I attempted singing a ’round’ or ‘canon’ with Grade 2 and failed. To begin, we learned ‘Mah-nah Mah-nah’ a Sesame Street (1969) classic which helped them with call-and-response singing in two groups. Then I asked one group to chant ‘ap-ples’ and the other group to chant ‘choc-o-late’ creating a poly-rhythm which improved their understanding of singing against another part. My last improvement (besides another fun round to sing) will be to learn the words to Row Row row Your Boat a little better! This is not an instructional video, only a reflection.

I teach music to primary students grades 1-6 (ages 6-13). This is the first edited set of videos from activities in my class which I thought were excellent. The first is a Grade 1 showing an ensemble activity, the second, a Grade 3 class making sounds to narrate a story, and the last a composition activity for a Grade 6 class. This is not an instructional video, only a reflection.
