Here’s something you don’t see every day – a man teaching kindergarten. That’s what happens every day at Park City’s Trailside Elementary School. This piece won the Best Education Feature at the 2008 SPJ (Utah Chapter) Awards. For more, watch PCTV online at parkcity.tv.

this is inspirational to me. I’ve been intimidated by parents as a new male kindergarten teacher. I’ve had a few moms in a weary surprise when meeting me. I even overheard one mom say, “Oh…. the teacher is a male???”. That breaks down my confidence and I fall right into the parents’ preconceived notions about me. Drawn back, not as funny and nurturing as a woman, etc. I’ll have my good days though.

oh gosh….I soooooooooooo need to get a light saber for a pointer. The boys would love it.
