Question:
I just transferred to a new school at the beginning of November. My new history teacher told us about project she had for us. It’s for National History Day. We can do a numerous things; documentaries, reports, etc. I chose the report thinking it was the obvious easiest. Well it turned out being about a 12 page minimum. I put it off until now and I have about a month to do it. (Around February 4th is the due date.) My topic is DNA testing and how it is an innovation in history. I must have an annotated bibliography with primary resources, you know the works. My question is; how on Earth can I possibly get this done?

Question:
I have a 4 and a 3 yr old , I was wondering if I can homeschool my kids. I speak Romanian and French and my English is ok but not perfect , I do not know a lot about education here in the US, but I heard the schools&teachers here don’t have high standards of education , not to mention the moral values in the schools today . I heard the students don’t have any respect for the teacher, are noisy in the classroom , they don’t learn too much , which made me think about homeschool , but I am not to confident I can do it, especially that I am not a teacher. I consider myself educated, I went to nursing college in Europe , and know a lot about History,Geography,Chemistry,Biology etc
but I still don’t know how to teach my kids and what they should learn . Also I have limited resources to buy curriculums when the public school is free. What do you think about public schools are they that bad?

Question:
I think we really do. Teachers overload students with homework to the point that you have no time to do anything else but that. I stayed up all night on a paper for english last week, and didn’t get to my chemistry homework because of it. Do teachers seem to forget we have other classes that give us work as well? The teachers are asking for too much… a 3 page typed paper on the history of the english language complete with resources and 25 examples? due the NEXT class period this is crazy.

Question:
Here is my dilemma. I chose a topic for my 25 page research paper in media history class which was “The Press Coverage in the Spanish American War of 1898.” For three freaking weeks, after I presented my topic before the class, and after I turned in my bibliography, just yesterday (four days before our 10 page sample is due – Monday Sept. 28) my professor told me that this topic was too broad , that I would need to narrow my topic down to something more specific, for example: “Press Coverage of Establishment Black Colleges and Universities in Chicago.” A topic not accepted would be: “Press Coverage of Establishment Black Colleges and Universities.”

The teacher told me that I could possibly write on the press coverage of ONE battle covered by journalists in the USA and journalists who were deployed to Cuba. Kind of compare and contrast. This sounds like a good idea, but I cannot find enough resources!! And for only ONE battle!! :(

I need to keep my topic on the Spanish American War because I do not have the time to gather information on another completely different topic. If you can help me, I appreciate it.

Question:
I have no interest in History what-so-ever and I have to write a 10 page persuasive essay on a topic of my choice. Now, if my teacher gave me a specific topic to me it would have been much easier. Anyways, I need help choosing a topic, it can be in any time period (but keep in mind I need book resources) but it MUST have a controversy and it CANT be 100% American. Ideas?

Question:
What is a good textbook for the AP World History exam? I was thinking of getting World Civilizations: The Global Experience, but I am not — there are so many different editions, some only one volume, some two.

Also, what are some good supplementary readers, books, teachers’ resources, and so on?

Thank you for your help!

Question:
The Texas Ranger Division, commonly called the Texas Rangers, is a law enforcement agency with statewide jurisdiction based in Austin, the capital of Texas, in the United States. Over the years, the Texas Rangers have investigated crimes ranging from murder to political corruption, acted as riot police and as detectives, protected the Texas governor, tracked down fugitives, and functioned as a paramilitary force at the service of both the Republic (1836–45) and the state of Texas.

The Texas Rangers Division is opening the Texas Rangers History and Education Center in Kerrville, Texas.

I want to first see if teachers and students would be interested in what the center has to offer. Would you like to use any specific resources? Would you like to visit the Center, etc.

If you aren’t from Texas, but do teach history, what are the things important to you and your students as far as resources and learning centers?

Thanks!!

Question:
I was thinking back to junior high when use to have simulations for history class. We would typically act out historical events in class for hands on learning. Our class got to do a model UN simulation where we actually ran our country and interacted with the other countries. We had to build our economies, militaries, and world influence. We also had to manage our resources, population and meet goals that were given out by the teacher.

I thought back and wondered how can I go back to Junior High and have that much fun again? It would sure beat running SQL SPUFIs all day to extract data.

Question:
